About us

Our PHILOSOPHIES & child development

The Barnes Village Nursery has been in the heart of the community for over 40 years. Our mission is to provide high quality education and care for pre-school aged children. Our nursery is geared towards preparing your child for Reception, providing them with a head start both educationally and socially.

At the Barnes Village Nursery tailor a variety of childcare philosophies to suit each individual child’s needs and development.

We prepare children for school through promoting excellent social, communication, physical and cognitive skills. We introduce letter, number, shape and colour recognition, helping the children to achieve all of their Early Learning Goals, while instilling a life-long love of learning.

As well as teacher-led learning sessions, Barnes Village nursery has a number of enriched learning environments to encourage children to act on their inherent curiosity. We believe that children learn best through play and grow in confidence and ability when allowed a measure of freedom to make choices and have unique preferences.

This approach develops highly motivated self-learners who are resilient, take risks and problem-solve effectively.

The unique situation of The Barnes Village allows for a blended Indoor and Outdoor

Learning sessions, providing both mental stimulation and physical activity. Children at the Village go for walks, feed the ducks at the pond, do bark-rubbing and go on Bear Hunts. Children also learn about their local community and the world around them through trips to the local fishmonger and shops.

The Barnes Village Nursery works towards the Early Years Foundation Stage guidelines and the 7 key areas of learning.

We work closely with parents to ensure that children leave the Barnes Village nursery as happy, independent and confident little beings, ready for their next steps.

Charting your child’s progress:

Here at The Barnes Village Nursery, we believe in supporting children’s development through extending and building on what they can already do. We Observe, Watch and Listen to (OWL) each individual child. We use this information to plan activities, ensuring each child reaches their full potential whilst playing and having fun!

Parents are kept informed about what their children are achieving at Nursery through a secure online learning journal which is updated weekly with photos, videos and entries. These entries are linked to the 419 learning outcomes that children should meet by the time they leave Reception.

“If you want your children to be intelligent read them fairytails. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairytails”

Albert Einstein

“If you're feeling guilt about reading a book, the paper or a magazine instead of playing with your children, Don't. Children who grow up with parents who read become readers themselves, and reading opens universes”

Julia Robinson, Head of The Barnes Village Nursery
