Who we are

Welcome to The Barnes Village Nursery - a cherished part of our community for over 40 years. Nestled in the heart of the village, we are passionate about providing exceptional education and care for pre-school children from 9 months old, giving them the best start to their learning journey.

Our mission is to prepare your child for life ahead with confidence and enthusiasm, nurturing both their academic and social development. At The Barnes Village Nursery, we tailor a variety of childcare philosophies to suit each child’s unique needs, fostering their growth in a warm, supportive environment.

Meet the Team

  • Jules Robinson

    PRINCIPAL / SENCO

“Although I came late to this career, I have a committed passion for Early Years Education and know that there is no more impactful time in a person’s life than the years between birth and five. The experiences little people have during this time shape their futures and therefore shape the futures of us all. Everything placed before a child must be a constructive learning experience. Everyone who interacts with them must do so with careful thought and consideration for the effect these interactions have. Every day must be full of positivity, curiosity and fun. This is how we together will build confident, independent and resilient little souls who will go forth with eagerness and joy in their hearts for each new experience life has to offer.”

  • Frances Livingstone

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL / CURRICULUM MANAGER / SENCO

“If I had a superpower it would be for no child to ever feel anxiety, creating a home from home environment with resources set out to engage and inspire imagination in each and every child. The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery. I love to promote joy and fun so each unique child realises and reaches their full potential. Early years education is a critical period in terms of a child’s development. They learn to form bonds, develop language skills, cognitive functions and behavioural patterns. Children must be seen and heard.”

  • Lucy Cumming

    NURSERY MANAGER / CLASS LEADER

"I love watching children grow, learn, and expand their knowledge. Seeing their curiosity spark, confidence build, and skills flourish is incredibly rewarding. It fills me with pride to guide and support their journey, helping them unlock their potential and find joy in learning. Watching their excitement when they grasp new concepts or achieve their goals makes teaching truly fulfilling."

  • George Derrane

    NURSERY MANAGER / CLASS LEADER

  • Charlene Cumming

    CLASS LEADER

“It is a privilege to be able to observe children flourish in the nurturing environment we create for them.”

  • Chimene Richardson

    CLASS LEADER

“Working with children is so rewarding. It feels magical to watch children develop as young people. My favourite part is listening to all their amusing chatter!”

  • Adelina Marku

    CLASS LEADER

“There is no other job as lovely as being a nursery teacher. I am so lucky to feel loved and admired by so many young children on a daily basis, I am fortunate to be able to inspire them.”

Our Nursery Classes

We split our little students into four groups based on their individual needs, their ages and their stages. We make sure that when they come to Nursery, they enter a world that is made and catered for each unique individual so they can thrive in this environment.

  • Rasberries

From 9 months, young children can join The Barnes Village Nursery in the Raspberry Room. The teachers in this room are not just Early Years Educators. They ensure that each child is loved and cared for in a small, homely, and cosy environment. We adapt according to the babies’ needs throughout the day. Resources, activities, and toys will provide them with learning through play, connecting to the Nursery’s core curriculum with topic work. Our gentle introduction to a Nursery curriculum will each day include small world play, story times, music, adventure bags, sensory play, interactive toys and exploration of all aspects of learning. Furthermore, each day, the Raspberries will investigate the Common and surrounding areas of natural beauty, learning from the nature on our doorstep.

  • Blueberries

Our Blueberry children are aged approximately 22 months to 38 months. This classroom has ample space to explore resources and activities from mark-making, construction, sensory messy play, reading, technology, role play and small world. Topic work is blended into independent learning and shared engaged activities. The teachers encourage the children’s growing communication and socialisation skills through shared activities, circle time and plenty of one-to-one time with experienced adults. The children grow in confidence by practicing both fine and gross motor skills as well as becoming more independent in their self care. The Blueberries is a home from home playroom with low level resources set out to inspire and learn through play.

  • Gooseberries

Gooseberry children are aged 3 and above. This cosy classroom gently encourages more structured discovery through play, working with our friends on projects, topic work and consolidating our learning with expanded vocabulary, shared ideas and stories. The children explore mark-making and creative arts through a huge variety of mediums, study different fictional books and characters, and role-play to their hearts’ content from Astronauts to Zebra-keepers. We spend a lot of time engaged in lateral learning, not solely following a traditionally linear path of numeracy and literacy, but also using our wonderous imagination to forge new paths of discovery and learning. There is a focus in this classroom on creating firm friendships and developing the skills to share and take turns that are so crucial as we learn to engage effectively with those around us.

  • Rainbows

The Rainbow Classroom is for our pre-school children where they continue to develop in a loving home-from-home environment. This classroom is spacious, warm and inviting with areas for messy & sensory play, mark-making, literacy, numeracy, construction and role-play as well as many open-ended activities where the children’s own imagination is the only limit. Our daily circle time fosters discussion, decision making and engagement in classroom activities. A gentle routine is established to help the children with transitioning into a school environment. Guided by knowledgeable teachers, they develop vocabulary, manners and essential school-readiness skills, embodying our aims of creating confident, independent and highly social small people, ready for their next step.

Keeping Parents Connected

We value strong partnerships with parents and ensure they stay informed about their child’s progress. Each child has a secure online learning journal, updated weekly with photos, videos, and entries through the Famly app. This transparent approach celebrates milestones and provides parents with an active role in their child’s development.

Join us at The Barnes Village Nursery, where learning meets adventure, and every day is an opportunity to grow!
